We need your photos!
Vestry House Museum has over 80,000 photos in its archive. But only a handful depict the lives of the Windrush generation, those who left the Caribbean from the 1940s to 1970s and made a new life for themselves here in Waltham Forest.
Now we need your help to fill that gap.
If you or your family have photographs featuring members of the Windrush generation we’d love to make them part of our archive. The photos don’t have to be professionally taken and could depict any aspect of life: celebrations, family, religion, food, sport, work or anything else.
The only rules are that the photos must:
- feature a member or members of the Windrush generation (people who arrived in the UK from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1971)
- be taken in Waltham Forest.
How to submit your photo
Please email your images to curator Ainsley Vinall (firstname.lastname@example.org) along with a date, location and brief description. We will get back to you with a consent form to confirm you are happy for us to put the photos in our archive.
Our preference is for high resolution digital photos in .jpg or .tif file format, sent via a file transfer service such as WeTransfer.
If you are unable to provide digital images, we are able to scan your originals. Please contact Ainsley Vinall to arrange an appointment.
